Millard is proud to offer two Core Knowledge Leadership Schools. Millard Core Knowledge is a sequential and engaging program rooted in the E.D. Hirsch philosophy. The Core Knowledge Sequence is based on the belief that knowledge builds on knowledge. Core Knowledge principles are content-specific, cumulative, coherent, and context-specific. The program develops rich reading, writing, and math skills using the Spalding Method of Phonics, Shurley English, Into Math, and myView. This curriculum includes a strong focus on history, geography, science, health, music, and visual arts. The program fosters analytical thinking. Students are challenged through an in-depth curriculum that develops higher-level thinking skills and establishes a solid foundation to build upon. Core Knowledge Schools in Millard
Millard offers the Core Knowledge Program at Cather and Disney Elementary Schools. Core Knowledge has been at Cather Elementary since 1995. In 2015, the Core Knowledge Program at Cather was first recognized as a Core Knowledge School of Distinction. As a result of increased demand and the district’s commitment to offering parent-choice programs, Core Knowledge expanded to Disney Elementary in 2016. In 2024, Disney became a School of Distinction. In 2026, the National Core Knowledge School of Distinction was renamed the Core Knowledge Leadership School. Core Knowledge at Cather Elementary and Disney Elementary are parent choice programs offered by the Millard Public Schools. For more information, please contact the schools.
